Masonry Problems Don't Wait. Neither Should you.

Cracks in a foundation masonry wall can result from settlement, expansive soil, pressure from unstable backfill, frost heave, or hydrostatic groundwater pressure. Any one of these causes is a serious issue — and without intervention, the damage will only worsen over time. Left unaddressed, what starts as a crumbling mortar joint or a hairline crack can progress to a total wall failure.

What sets Keller apart from most foundation companies is that we bring both disciplines under one roof. We don’t just stabilize your structure and hand you off to someone else for the masonry — Keller combines structural expertise with skilled masonry craftsmanship, addressing both the cause of the damage and the condition it leaves behind.

Whether your home has a natural stone foundation, a brick or block wall, or poured concrete showing masonry deterioration, Keller has the experience and the methods to restore it correctly — and make sure it holds.

tuckpointing
& Repointing

If the mortar joints on your foundation or exterior walls are crumbling, cracking, or pulling away from the masonry, Keller's tuckpointing services restore the bond — protecting your home from water infiltration and further structural deterioration.

Tuckpointing — also called repointing — is the process of removing deteriorated mortar from the joints between masonry units and replacing it with fresh, properly bonded mortar. It is one of the most important maintenance services a masonry home can receive, and one of the most commonly deferred. When mortar joints fail, water finds a path in, freeze-thaw cycles widen the opening, and the problem compounds rapidly.

While the bricks or stone on your home may last for centuries, the mortar holding them together typically has a service life of just 25 years. Tuckpointing on time is far less expensive than replacing sections of wall that have deteriorated beyond repair.

  • Seals open joints against water infiltration — one of the most effective waterproofing steps for masonry homes
  • Slows or stops freeze-thaw deterioration by eliminating the voids water occupies
  • Restores structural integrity to walls where mortar bond has failed
  • Improves the appearance and value of your home’s exterior
  • Far less costly than full wall repair or replacement when addressed proactively
  • Applies to brick, block, and stone foundations and above-grade walls

Stone, Brick
& Block Repair

Whether your foundation is natural stone, century-old brick, or concrete block, Keller has the expertise and the right approach for each material — so repairs hold up under New England conditions.

Not all masonry is the same, and not all masonry repairs should be treated the same way. The material your foundation is built with determines both the cause of failure and the correct method of repair. Using the wrong technique or material on a stone, brick, or block wall can accelerate deterioration rather than slow it. Keller’s experience across all three foundation types ensures the repair is matched to the material.

When Repair Isn't Enough: Full Foundation Wall Replacement

Most masonry problems can be resolved through repointing and targeted repair. But in cases where a foundation was built with low-quality materials, has aged beyond repair, or has suffered damage that has compromised the entire wall, repair alone is not sufficient. Keller offers full basement wall replacement for the most serious cases — a significant undertaking that impacts landscaping, driveways, sidewalks, and utilities, and is only recommended when wall repair is genuinely not an option.

When a wall replacement is warranted, Keller manages the full scope — including a complete inspection of your center supports, lally columns, and floor system — to ensure that every element of your home’s structural base is addressed in a single, coordinated project.
