Why Worcester Homes
Have Wet Basements
TERRAIN
The Hills
Water always runs downhill. Homes in hillside neighborhoods like College Hill, Vernon Hill, and off Salisbury Street take on uphill runoff with every storm and every spring melt.
GROUND
The Soil
Dense glacial till and clay drain poorly. Saturated ground builds hydrostatic pressure that forces water through cracks, mortar joints, and the floor-wall seam.
CLIMATE
The Winters
Central Massachusetts freeze-thaw cycles push against foundation walls all winter — then melt and flood the ground in March and April. Year after year, that cycle compounds.
Keller’s interior, exterior, and multi-step waterproofing systems are engineered for exactly these conditions — backed by our lifetime transferable warranty.

A Century Of Weight On
Worcester Foundations
Worcester has one of the largest collections of triple-deckers in New England — and most sit on fieldstone, brick, or early block foundations that are now over a hundred years old. A three-decker puts significantly more load on its foundation than a single-family home, so when soil pressure starts winning, it shows: deteriorating mortar joints, bowing basement walls, settling floors, and rusted lally columns carrying more than they should.
Keller matches the repair to your foundation type — urethane injection for poured concrete, elastomeric membranes for stone and brick, steel beams and anchors for bowing walls, and piering for settlement. Repairs are permanent, not patches, and covered by a lifetime transferable warranty that adds real value when it’s time to sell.
Things Worcester Homeowners Ask Us
My Worcester home has a fieldstone foundation. Can it actually be waterproofed?
Yes — but not with injection methods made for poured concrete. Stone foundations are best sealed from the exterior with a flexible elastomeric membrane, or protected from the interior with a drainage system and liner that captures seepage and directs it to a sump. Keller has been waterproofing New England stone foundations for over five decades, and we’ll recommend the right approach for your specific wall.
Why does my basement only flood in the spring?
Spring snowmelt is Worcester’s peak flooding season. Months of accumulated snow melts into soil that’s still partially frozen, so the water can’t drain downward — it moves sideways, straight toward basements. If your basement takes on water in March and April, an interior drainage system with a properly sized sump pump is usually the most reliable fix.
My house is on a hill and water runs at it every storm. Is waterproofing enough?
On sloped lots, the best results usually combine exterior drainage (to intercept the water before it arrives) with basement waterproofing (to handle whatever still gets through). During your free estimate, we evaluate the whole property — grading, gutters, downspouts, and foundation — and give you options, not just a one-product pitch.
Is a bowing basement wall under a three-decker an emergency?
It’s urgent. A three-decker puts significantly more load on its foundation than a single-family home, and a bowing wall means soil pressure is actively winning. The further it moves, the more the repair costs. Steel beam and anchor systems can stop the movement immediately — and in many cases gradually restore the wall toward plumb.
How much does basement waterproofing cost in Worcester?
It depends on the source of the water, your foundation type, and the right system for your home — which is why we start with a free on-site inspection and a written, no-obligation quote. No pressure, no gimmicks — just an honest assessment from a local family business.
Should I fix all my cracks at once or just the leaking ones?
Fix them all at once. Here’s why:
All cracks eventually leak. Fixing only the leaking ones just delays the inevitable, and costs more because you have to pay more than once to bring the repairman out again.
Water seeks the path of least resistance. If there are multiple cracks some will provide less resistance to the water than others so they leak first. Once the cracks are sealed, the water will look for the next easiest path which is typically the cracks that weren’t previously leaking.
Save money: When you are having cracks repaired, take advantage of quantity discounts usually available and have them all fixed at once.
